Better weather, and better health

The weather has been nice all weekend, with highs of 15 deg. C...I have been ill since the 3rd or 4th of January, and it was only Sunday 8th March that I actually felt 99% better; for the first time all year!

I haven't gotten back out into the garden since that first time on Feb 25th - the first warm day this year...I noticed the correlation between my health and the weather then too, but I didn't stay "better"...I was just momentarily improved. As the weather worsened, so did my health again.

My x-ray came back "clear" - so nothing sinister, and no cracked rib from all the coughing...however, it did show I have a hyper inflated lung, and this was causing the pain around all one side of my ribcage. I reckon I've been ill for 9 weeks...felt like a lot longer!

I had a look round a garden centre for my Centranthus, but they said it's too early in the year yet. I fancied a sundial stepping stone too, but the one I found was huge! Need one the same size as my existing ones.

Hopefully my health will stay improved and I'll get back out in my garden more regularly soon

First day of Spring? Feels like it!

This blog is just a bit of fun, to cheer me up and remind me of the good in life and simple pleasures...also serves as a little bit like a diary too?

It's only 25th of February, but today was warm and sunny, for the first time in ages! Only 12 deg. C, but loads warmer than lately...not bad for winter in England.

I've been ill for 6-7 weeks..."only" a cough, but had to have an X-Ray and may have cracked a rib with it! Awaiting my results still, to confirm it, and rule out something more sinister, as it is very painful. I was ill for 12 weeks last year too, with a cough...same time of year as well.

I hope to get better as the weather improves and start to enjoy being outdoors again - instead of coughing in the freezing air.

Today I came home from the shops, stood on my doorstep to go in the house, felt the sun on my back and also noticed all the dead growth from last year. I actually felt motivated to go back out and cut back all of this; mainly Yellow Loosestrife ("Lysimachia vulgaris") but also some ornamental Thistle as well.

These are both good garden plants; as they grow tall, come back every year, divide and spread a bit; without being too invasive, and attract bees and butterflies.

However, the border looks a bit bare now - I know that the Loosestrife will come back, but it is all a bit yellow, with not enough other things next to it - I remember years ago I had a lovely blue Delphinium and some red Centranthus - but sadly both of those died and I never replaced them...might be nice to obtain them both again, now I'm a little bit more experienced

I'm not to au fait with which way my front garden points...I think it's roughly South, and as I live in a staggered row of terraced houses, it's quite a nice sun trap too.

My favourite part of being in the garden today was my 14 month-old daughter calling out of the living room window, Bye Dadda and waving  :)  She has said "Daddy" or "Dadda" in the past, but like she's repeated it...today was the first time she's called me it properly, and she hasn't said it in months  :)  All in all a nice memory. I also noticed some Daffodils starting to poke through some long grass
